Christmas Eve at Timber Coffee

As I have mentioned before, Timber Coffee in Okgyedong (Gumi) is my favorite coffee shop in all of Korea. Every time I go to Gumi to visit, I am always sure to be seen here.

Have I ever told you the story of how we found Timber Coffee and met this wonderful family?

Well, one evening about a year ago, our friend Eunhee was going on a mission trip and asked us to pray for her. We met up in Okyedong and walked around looking for a quiet coffee shop to pray in. As we walked by Timber Coffee, we looked in. Although it was still under construction with no tables or chairs except a lone table in the middle of the shop, I loved the interior design with its exposed bricks and pipes and tall windows that would open to be doors in the summer. It was unlike a lot of coffee shops here, and I loved it. It reminded me of the lofts in downtown Springfield. It felt like home.

And with all of this staring, the owner motioned us in. Huh? (Oh no, no, sorry~~we were just looking.) We asked when it would open, and told him what we were doing, but he invited us in to sit down. He pulled up a couple more chairs at that center table and proceeded to let try numerous coffees and teas and homemade yogurt. He gave us a tour of the place (both upstairs and downstairs) and introduced us to his family. We had a blessed time there. We prayed for Eunhee's trip, and we ended by praying with Mr. Ha (the owner) for the success of his business.

And so.....on Christmas Eve, when he had live music coming, we were sure to be there. As you can see by the pictures, this is a thriving business and family of  Timber Coffee patrons/friends.
